After the death of his father Michael Besnier, in 2000, Jean-Michel and his siblings, Emmanuel and Marie, inherited Lactalis, a multi-national dairy products corporation. Back in 1933, his grandfather, André Besnier founded a small cheese-making company Besnier that in 1968 launched its famous Président brand.
Through the years, Besnier merged with many dairy companies like Bridel and Sorrento, and in 1999, Besnier Group became Lactalis Group.
