Edmund Ansin is an American billionaire who has a net worth of $1.4 billion. Today known as a co-founder of Sunbeam Television, Edmund Ansin inherited a real estate fortune and attached television stations to it. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, he spent two years at Harvard and took a B.S. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1957. In the 1950's he helped his father Sidney to use proceeds from the family's Boston shoemaking business to purchase Florida real estate. Some of the properties in Florida and Indianapolis are still owned and maintained by Ed.
His father also bought the Miami's WSVN Channel 7 (an NBC affiliate) for $3.4 million in 1962. Thus, Ansin got the chance to become an executive vice president at Sunbeam Television Corp, the holding company for the television station. In 1971 he became Sunbeam's president right after his father's death. The station, still operating as a Fox affiliate, practiced first the "if it bleeds, it leads" style of TV journalism mainly focusing on crime and similar consumer interest stories. Even though in the late seventies, Edmund Ansin has no intention to retire.
